Gemma Chan is the Best in Crazy Rich Asians

So Beautiful, Perfect and Sophisticated

Crazy Rich Asians was a lot of very satisfying wealth porn, which I expected and enjoyed. I have to agree with Jonathan Roberts of  The Straits Times who said the storyline is mostly driven by the female cast and that the men mostly function as place holders who don’t really say much and don’t really do much – especially the leading man, Henry Golding – he definitely left me wanting more – a lot more. Out of the female cast, I most enjoyed Gemma Chan, who plays Astrid Leong. I think she’s the most beautiful and gives off an air of perfection and sophistication that almost had me salivating over her. I read the book as well, so it was interesting to see what scenes were included in the movie and which ones were not. There is one scene in particular that I wish would have been included – when Astrid (played by Gemma Chan) really fine-tunes her taste in haute couture thanks to her boyfriend (while she was in college) Charlie who introduces her to all the finest haute couture boutiques in Paris. The book has so much great detailed descriptions of all kinds of luxury fashion, extraordinary jewelry, high-end home interior design – I think the film could have done a better job in capturing more of that. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it very much and I look forward to the next movie based on the sequel China Rich Girlfriend, which I’ve also started reading – as well as seeing more of Gemma Chan.
