Symbolism of the Peacock

Sometimes we can identify with certain animals because of certain characteristics they embody that we see in ourselves or perhaps desire in ourselves. I recently went to my friend Brandon’s 40th birthday party and I really enjoyed his beautiful cake (pictured above, close up below). I asked him, “Brandon, what is the significance of the peacock?” and he said, “A peacock is a beautiful male animal and I hope that I can continue to be a beautiful male animal as I advance in age…” or something like that… I thought that was so beautiful and creative of him to do that. I too hope that I can continue to be a beautiful male animal… LOL.

Out of curiosity, I wanted to learn more about the symbolism of the peacock and quickly learned that it has great symbolism across many cultures as an embodiment of such great virtues as beauty, balance, wise vision, awakening, immortality, spirituality, self-confidence and self love. In her website, Sprit Animal, Elena Harris describes that:
